POTABLE WATER
PRE-TREATMENT PROCESS
Something in your water may be creating taste and odor
problems while elevating THM and HAA levels.
Take control in your pre- treatment process with EarthTec®, an
innovative low pH algicide and bactericide solution containing
99.99% biologically active cupric ions (Cu++).
Unlike other copper sulfate products on the market today,
the active ingredient in EarthTec® (Cu++) is fully dissolved
and stays soluble in water. This means dosage rates are
dependent on biological demand rather than water conditions.
These characteristics allow you to control TOCs without overtreatment resulting in less copper being added to the
environment.
The low pH of EarthTec® aids in assimilability of organic
matter to bacteria. The low acidity also decreases
solubility of organic matter allowing humic substances to
precipitate out.
Controlling
natural organic matter (NOMs) with EarthTec®
yields many benefits:
- Reduces TOCs, both
particulate and dissolved
- Removes taste and odor
from the water
- Lowers THM and HAA
levels
- Reduces need for other
chemicals
- Creates no known
carcinogenic disinfection by-products (DBPs)
EarthTec® is a liquid copper water treatment product
registered with the US EPA as an algicide and bactericide and
Certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 60 as a drinking water
additive.
EarthTec® Dosage Rates for Pre-Treatment
Process
Dosage rates for the Pre-Treatment Process start at 1 gallon
of EarthTec® per 1,000,000 gallons of raw water. This rate is
equivalent to .06 ppm of copper. Higher dosage rates may be
necessary with high levels of organic load in the source
water.
EarthTec® should be injected into the raw water pipe as
close to the source as possible. Use a properly sized
chemical metering pump with a corp stop and solution tube.
Solution tube should be inserted between one-third and
one-half way into the pipe.
To insure enough EarthTec® has been added to meet organic
demand, take a water sample at the influent of the plant and
make sure there is a free copper residual (Cu++).
Note: When initially feeding EarthTec® into an intake line,
any bio-film buildup in the line will flake off. This can
cause an increase in suspended solids in the settling basins
or clarifiers for a few days.
RESERVOIRS

EarthTec® is registered as an algicide
and bactericide with the
US EPA and Certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 60 as a drinking water
additive. This environmentally responsible product is
non-toxic to humans and fish when used as directed.
Less Algae
EarthTec® is an innovative
low pH algicide and bactericide containing a very high
concentration of biologically active cupric ions (Cu++).
Conventional methods involve treating for algae after a
bloom occurs, resulting in the need for high treatment
levels and damage to non-target species. EarthTec® allows
long term control and will prevent blooms from reoccurring
without buildup of copper on the bottom.
Control of algae and reduction of bacteria yield several
benefits:
-
Elimination of taste
and odor in
drinking water due to algae blooms
-
Reduction in THM and
HAA precursors
-
Creates no
disinfection-by-products
-
Reduces or eliminates
need for other water treatment chemicals
Less Work
The dark blue
liquid solution of EarthTec® self-disperses, allowing even distribution
without spraying or mixing. Labor costs are greatly reduced.
Less Copper

The
active ingredient in EarthTec® is a biologically active cupric ion (Cu++), which
is the only form of copper that is useful in controlling
algae and bacteria. EarthTec® contains a unique hydrotrope
which allows a greater concentration under varying water
conditions. The high content of biologically active
copper in EarthTec® results in less total copper being added to the
environment. The release of copper in EarthTec® is controlled
by biological demand (such as an algae bloom) instead of by
water conditions. This allows you to treat prior to an algae
bloom. The copper will not precipitate out of solution, but
will remain fully dissolved indefinitely, thereby insuring
long-term algae control without overtreatment.
